FREMONT, IN (WTVB) – An ex-track and cross country coach in Fremont, Indiana and a 1994 Coldwater High School graduate has been charged with five counts of Child Seduction for having an alleged inappropriate sexual relationship with a former Fremont High School athlete.
Moses Castillo was formally charged Thursday in Steuben County in connection with alleged incidents that according to court documents started in 2015 with a female cross country runner.
Castillo waived his initial hearing during a video conference in Steuben County Magistrates Court on Thursday. He was released from the Steuben County Jail after posting ten percent of a $10,000 bond. A no contact was issued on behalf of the alleged victim in the case.
A pre-trial conference in Steuben Circuit Court was scheduled for April 16th, 2018.
The charges against Castillo are Level 5 felonies which in Indiana carry a maximum prison sentence of six years.
The arrest on Wednesday took place after an investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office. Fremont School Superintendent Doctor William Stitt said in a statement that the district found out about the alleged relationship last December.
Castillo was not employed as a teacher or staff member in Fremont at the time.
The allegation was reported to authorities and the Fremont School Board accepted Castillo’s resignation at their next meeting.
Stitt says Castillo was also instructed not to be on school grounds or have any communication with Fremont Community Schools’ students or staff members.
Castillo had been coaching at Fremont since 1997.
He was twice named the Class 1A Coach of the Year by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches.
