JENISON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson and Union City won girls high schiool volleyball tournament championships Saturday while Coldwater got to the semifinals of the Jenison Invitational.
Coldwater advanced to the semifinals of the Jenison Invitational on Saturday. The Cardinals went 2-1 in pool play, defeating GR West Catholic (25-22) and Unity Christian (25-9, 25-18) but they lost to Lakewood (15-25, 21-25). In Bracket play, the Cardinals defeated Grandville 25-22, 18-15, 15-9) but fell to Jenison in the semis (25-16, 21-25, 14-16).
Coldwater led 14-10 in the finals game and was within one point of advancing to the finals but Jenison scored the final six points to win the match.
Olivia Foley led with 101 assists, 46 digs, and 4 aces, Tyler Scheid led with 31 kills, led with 8 aces, and had 42 digs, Abby Herman had 30 kills, Ellory Farmer led defensively with 80 digs and had 5 acesSam Rodesiler had 28 kills, led with 8 blocks, and had 33 digs, and Malorie Rzepka had 27 kills on the day.
Coldwater plays again Wednesday at home against Harper Creek in their final conference match. Wednesday is also Senior Night where they will be honoring all of the varsity graduating seniors.
Union City defeated the fourth ranked team in Division Four, Camden-Frontier, 2-1 (22-25, 27-25, 15-10) in the finals of the Jonesville “I Wear PINK for Someone Special” Tournament.
The Chargers finished first in their pool by defeating Hillsdale (25-15, 25-16), Jonesville’s J.V.’s (25-6, 25-12) and tying with Pittsford (25-24, 20-25). After getting a bye in bracket play, the Chargers defeated Hillsdale in the semifinals 2-0 (25-22, 25-16) before defeating Camden-Frontier in the finals.
Lexi George had 46 assists, Lillian Bambacht had 36 kills and 40 digs, Aubrey George had nine blocks, Bracy Swift had 41 digs and Sydney Falkner had 10 aces. As part of the cancer fighting tournament, the Chargers played for cancer survivor Sherri Falkner. Her daughter Sydney is one of their captains on the team this year.
Meanwhile, the Union City J.V. team got to the semifinals of the Concord Invitational before they lost to Bronson 2-0 (16-25, 21-25). Kassandra Kohsmann had 19 kills while Meghan Russell had 14 kills and five aces. Autumn Liskovec had nine assists.
Bronson won the Parma Western Invitational on Saturday. The Division Three second-ranked Vikings defeated the host school in the finals 2-0 (25-19, 32-30). They defeated Dexter (25-20, 25-20, 25-23) and Napoleon (25-13, 25-14, 25-16) in pool play. The Vikings then defeated Napoleon in the quarterfinals 25-8, 25-9 and Dexter in the semifinals 25-17, 25-23.

The Legg Middle School seventh grade A team won their tournament Saturday with victories over Delton-Kellogg (25-14, 25-13, 15-12), Bronson (25-16, 25-12, 15-7) and Vicksburg (25-12, 25-17, 11-15). The A team improved to 10-4-2 for the season.
On the day Coldwater was led at the service line by MacKenzie Scheid 36 – 39 with 14 aces, Bella Carrion 19 – 23 2 aces, Hailey Price 12 -13 2 aces, Kennedy Clemens 17 – 22 2 aces and Kaydence Wing 9 – 13 with 3 aces. In the back row Scheid had 20 digs followed by Caroline Miller with 18, Morgan Dancer 15, Clemens 12, Price 10, Emma Porter 9 & Payton McBride with 6 digs.
MacKenzie Sceid had 11 kills to lead Coldwater followed by Hailey Price with 4, Isabella Pool with 3 & Emma Porter & Caroline Miller with 2 each.
