COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners gave their formal approval Wednesday to have County Administrator Bud Norman move forward with the proposal process to find a engineering firm which would review and estimate the costs for repairs at the current Branch County Jail.
Items that need to be fixed are the water distribution system, the boiler and the doors and locks.
The vote was 4-1 in favor with Commissioner Terri Norris voting no.
She has expressed concerns previously about putting money into the old jail since Branch County voters approved a millage proposal in August for a new county jail which is scheduled to be ready in a couple of years.
But Sheriff John Pollack says the problems at the old jail have to be fixed because the well being of staff and inmates is his department’s responsibility.
