COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater dropped both ends of a Interstate 8 Conference high school baseball doubleheader to Pennfield Tuesday night at Lowe Field by scores of 9-6 and 9-0. Pennfield snapped a 3-3 tie in the opener with a five-run sixth inning. Austin Roby had two RBI’s in the first game.
The Panthers scored five runs in the first inning of the nightcap. Coldwater is now 2-4 in the Interstate 8 and 6-9 overall.
The Coldwater JV team defeated Pennfield 11-0 and 12-1 as they improved to 10-4.
Bronson remained unbeaten in Big 8 Conference play as they swept Concord by scores of 10-0 and 12-0. It was a milestone night for Bronson’s Brett Sikorski as he tripled in the second game to become Bronson’s all time hits leader. His 160 hits surpassed the previous record held by Brenden Bell. Hudson Wotta had three hits and five RBI’s in the first game. Brendan Withington also had three hits for Bronson.
Blaine Robinson and Kameron Haviland both had three hits in the second game. Haviland homered and drove in four runs. Sikorski and Haviland were the winning pitchers.
Quincy swept Reading on Tuesday in Big 8 Conference action by scores of 10-0 and 7-0. First game winning pitcher Chandler Locke allowed only three hits and struck out seven Rangers. Caleb McCavit slugged a home run; Logan Banks tripled and Andrew Abright doubled. McCavit broke a school record for doubles in the second game as he collected his 31st two bagger as a Oriole. He hit his second homer of the doubleheader later on.
McCavit was also the winning pitcher in the nightcap as he tossed a two hitter and fanned 11 Ranger batters. Logan Banks had three hits. The Orioles improved to 3-3 in league play and 4-7 overall.
Union City split their Big 8 Conference doubleheader with Jonesville as they won the first game 6-1 but lost the nightcap 3-2. First game winning pitcher Larson Kever struck out 16 Comets. Connor Elgan and Brady Katz both drove in two runs. Katz also had two hits.
The Comets took the second game thanks to a run in the last of the seventh.
