UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A Sherwood teenager was arraigned Wednesday in Branch County District Court after he and a 16-year-old allegedly made a threat toward Union City schools.
17-year-old Michael Leeroy Miller is facing a felony charge of False Report or Threat of harmful device or bomb.
Bond has been set at $25,000. He is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing in Branch County District Court next Thursday. A preliminary exam was scheduled for May 8, 2019.
Police Chief Chris Mathis says the 16-year-old is in juvenile detention. His case will go through Probate Court.
Mathis says the alleged incident happened after school Tuesday, and there was what he called a very quick response by the Union City School administration, which led to the two teens being placed in custody within a very short time of the complaint.
He adds there was never an active danger to any Union City students.
