COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 64-year-old Coldwater man was killed late Friday morning in an industrial accident at the Real Alloy Coldwater South recycling facility at 267 North Fillmore in Coldwater.
Interim Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid said the man was struck by a piece of heavy industrial equipment and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Coldwater Fire Department, Life Care Ambulance, and the Coldwater Police Department were all dispatched at about 10:45 a.m. Friday on a report of a man being struck by a loader.
The incident was being treated as an accident.
Questions concerning the incident were referred by the local Real Alloy office to a company spokesman in Cleveland. That official has been unavailable for comment.
A spokesperson for the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed an investigation into the incident began on Friday. She added that typically this type of investigation may take several weeks or months. But she declined further comment while the investigation was open.
