TEKONSHA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A two vehicle crash on southbound I-69 near M-60 Monday night killed one person and forced a shutdown of the southbound side of the interstate for several hours.
Michigan State Police at Marshall report the lead vehicle was disabled in the road after hitting a deer just before 9:50 p.m.. The two occupants were able to exit safely and walk off the freeway.
A second vehicle struck the back of the disabled vehicle, veered off the road and went into a ditch before striking a tree.
First responders performed CPR on the driver of the second vehicle but that person was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of relatives.
The crash is still under investigation.
The southbound side was shut down while the investigation was conducted and the debris was cleaned up.
Marshall Fire and Ambulance along with the Tekonsha Fire Department assisted at the scene.
