COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In girls high school softball, Coldwater got to the finals of the Division Two districts on their home diamond before they lost to Olivet 7-6.
The Cardinals were down 2-0 after five innings before they erupted for six runs in the top of the sixth to take a 6-2 lead. Olivet tied the game with four runs in the last of the sixth before winning the district title with a run in the last of the seventh. Kassidy Bishop had two hits in the title game while Mallory Wilber and Autumn Sunderland both had two RBI’s.
Coldwater advanced to the title game by defeating Harper Creek 13-0. Mia Rzepka and Lily Gimenez combined on a two-hitter. Gimenez also drove in three runs while Jayla Foster and Alyssa Bach both drove in two runs. Abby Herman had three hits while Foster and Gimenez both had two hits.
Quincy captured the Division Three district title at Hanover-Horton as they defeated Jonesville 4-3 in 11 innings and Homer 14-3. The Orioles rallied in the semifinals against the Comets. Jonesville scored twice in the top of the eighth before the Orioles got two in the bottom of the inning. Quincy pushed across the winning run in the last of the 11th. Kelsey Mainstone struck out 13 in 10 innings of work. Morgan Michael pitched the final inning to get the win. Mick Signor had two hits and two RBI’s.
The Orioles led the title game against Homer 3-1 before they busted it open with a six run fifth. Signor had four hits including a homer and seven RBI’s. Hayley Wineland also homered and drove in three runs. Michael was the winning pitcher as she struck out five in six innings.
The Orioles advanced to the Grass Lake Regionals next Saturday where they will face either Dundee or Monroe Saint Mary Catholic Central. Those two teams will face each other Monday in the finals of the Erie Mason district tournament after it was postponed Saturday by bad weather.
Union City got to the finals of the Division Three district they hosted Saturday. The Chargers blasted Vermontville Maple Valley 14-2 in the semifinals before losing to Delton-Kellogg 10-0. Union City collected 14 hits against Maple Valley as they scored five runs in the second and eight in the sixth. Winning pitcher Quinnlyn Adams struck out eight. She also had three hits and four RBI’s. Summer Thorpe collected three hits while Kayley DeLisle and Sydney Falkner both had two hits.
The Chargers only trailed 2-0 in the district title game before Delton-Kellogg broke it open with six runs in the fifth. Payton James had two hits for Union City.
Bronson’s season ended in the semifinals as they lost to Delton-Kellogg 8-4.
