COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to take formal action Tuesday on a construction manager for the new Branch County Jail.
After interviewing four prospects, commissioners decided during their work session Thursday to bring forward the proposal to hire Clark Construction at a cost of just under $966,000.
Clark’s headquarters are in Lansing, Michigan. The company also has offices in Auburn Hills and Alpena.
County Administrator Bud Norman said a construction manager was needed in order for the project to move forward. He is hoping work on the jail can start in the fall.
Sheriff John Pollack felt good about the interviews and said he was comfortable with any of the top three candidates.
Besides Clark, the other candidates interviewed were Granger Construction, Performance Services, and Skillman Corporation.
There were six sealed proposals that were originally submitted to the county, with the top four candidates selected by the Jail Committee.
Each commissioner was given a worksheet after the interviews and were asked to rate each company on several categories.
