COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police are investigating a hit and run accident involving a Branch County Road Commission truck which took place early Wednesday morning on northbound I-69 near Fenn Road, just south of Coldwater.
Troopers were sent to the accident scene just before 2:00 a.m.. That’s where they found the Road Commission plow truck overturned and on its side in a ditch.
Plow truck driver John Roby of Coldwater told Troopers he was sideswiped by a semi tractor-trailer which continued northbound after the accident.
Roby was taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital where he was treated and released.
Further north on I-69 near Dorrance Road, another truck driver reported what is believed to be the same semi tractor-trailer passed him at a high rate of speed, causing a white-out condition.
The driver was unable to negotiate the road in the white-out and struck a guardrail on the left shoulder.
The suspect vehicle continued going north at a high rate of speed.
Information gathered indicates the at fault vehicle was a semi with a flatbed steel hauling trailer. The cab of the tractor was said to be outfitted with a sleeper cabin. The trailer was said to be equipped with drop cloth sides and multiple flashing yellow LED lights.
Road Commission Superintendent Brad Bell says the damaged plow truck could be a total loss depending on what an insurance adjuster determines.
If anyone has information regarding the semi tractor-trailer which failed to stop, contact the Michigan State Police Post in Marshall at (269)558-0500.
