MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – A woman was killed and five other occupants of an SUV registered out of Illinois were injured Friday night in a two vehicle crash on the I-94 eastbound ramp going to I-69. The other vehicle involved was a semi.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department reports the accident took place just before 7:30 p.m. when the SUV struck a guardrail and landed in the path of the semi which then struck the SUV.
The SUV had six occupants in it. Four were children between the ages of two and seven. All six were transported by ambulance to Bronson Kalamazoo with three of them in critical condition. An adult female who was a passenger in the SUV was pronounced upon arrival at Bronson. The names of all involved are being withheld till family has been notified.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Team is still investigating this incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 269-781-0880.
Multiple agencies assisted including the Marshall Township Fire Department, Marshall Area Fire Fighters Ambulance Authority, Life Care Ambulance, a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Conservation Office, the Michigan State Police Motor and MDOT.I-94 was shut down temporarily but one lane was opened up shortly after to allow traffic flow. All traffic lanes of the expressway were back open at about 11:30pm.
