OVID TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Two fifth grade boys who the Branch County Sheriff’s Department says ran away from Lakeland Elementary School Friday morning were caught about an hour after they left the school.
Undersheriff Keith Eichler says deputies found out the two boys came to school but never showed up to their class.
It was later discovered the youngsters left the school by getting out of a bathroom window.
It was reported by another student who had overheard their plan that they were heading to the Wal-Mart store.
A search was conducted by school officials and Sheriff’s Deputies.
The two boys were found about a mile away from the school as they were walking north along a wood line near I-69 just south of Central Road.
Eichler says the boys were taken back to school and turned over to school officials.
