DEKALB COUNTY, IN (WTVB) – A 14 year old boy from Garrett, Indiana, who has been missing for over two weeks was found safe Tuesday night in Hamilton County, Tennessee.
Indiana State Police say Shayden D. Howard was reported missing to the Garrett Police Department by his parents on May sixth. A Silver Alert was issued by Indiana authorities last Thursday.
Additional information led investigators to believe Howard might be in the company of 36 year old Larry E. Taylor of Garrett, although their whereabouts were still unknown.
Taylor was arrested Tuesday night by officers in Hamilton County, Tennessee on a charge of Public Intoxication and were unable to positively identify Howard.
Prosecutor officials from Tennessee contacted the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office and while inquiring about Taylor’s criminal history, they learned about the Silver Alert and from that information, were able to verify Howard’s identity.
Indiana State Police say an arrest warrant has been issued in DeKalb County on a preliminary felony charge of Kidnapping with the potential of additional charges at a later time.
Extradition procedures are underway in an attempt to bring Taylor back to Indiana. The case remains under investigation. Among those assisting were the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the F.B.I.. This case remains under investigation.
