COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Despite a setback a couple of weeks ago when nearly eight inches of snow was followed by record cold temperatures, Superintendent Terry Whelan told the Coldwater Community Scholsl Board of Education construction on the new Lakeland Elementary fourth and fifth grade school is on time for an opening in December 2020.
Groundbreaking for the new building on Western Avenue took place in April 2019.
Whelan said the asphalt and landscaping bid package will be going out at the start of December.
There is still 83 percent of the contingency balance available for the project which now stands at just over $1 million.
The new school building will replace Lakeland Elementary and it’s being built following the approval of a millage and bonding issue in November 2017 by district voters.
Tower Pinkster is serving as the architect for the project, while Owen-Ames-Kimball Company is the construction manager.
