LANSING, MI (WTVB) – 7th District Congressman Tim Walberg is among five U.S. House members from Michigan who are urging Governor Gretchen Whitmer to reconsider one of her line-item vetoes of $15 million in grant funding for airports to test and monitor for PFAS contamination.
A letter has been sent to the governor from Walberg along with fellow Republican Congressmen Jack Bergman, Bill Huizenga, Paul Mitchell and Fred Upton.
In it, they say they’re “deeply concerned” about the veto in the state budget.
The five congressmen say there is a high probability of PFAS contamination in groundwater near airports and add the chemicals pose a threat to both public health and the state’s economy.
