COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Longtime Coldwater High School boys and girls varsity soccer coach Ken Delaney has been named the United Soccer Coaches 2019 Michigan High School Coach of Significance.
The Coach of Significance Award is intended to recognize members who are coaching for character, using the soccer field to teach life lessons at the high school level. It is an opportunity for each state, in conjunction with United Soccer Coaches, to recognize excellence and the chance to share stories of how coaches are making an impact within their schools and communities well beyond their records of wins and losses.
The selection committee has national, regional, and state representation.
According to United Soccer Coaches, nominees for the award must demonstrate character through education and leadership within his/her team, school, or community, express concern and support for others, and serve as an inspiration through accomplishments and leadership.
Delaney just completed his 11th year as boys varsity coach at Coldwater, so far compiling a record of 166-65-10. He will enter his 9th year of coaching girls varsity soccer this upcoming spring.
He is also the President of the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association.
