COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As of January 31, 2020, the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities will no longer offer email and website hosting services to their customers.
The CBPU Board of Directors approved a resolution as part of a request from Director Jeff Budd Tuesday to end the services.
Budd said things have changed in the nearly two decades since the CBPU started telecom.
He pointed out things are much different today, as free email services like Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook, along with web hosting giants like GoDaddy, Amazon, and Google dominate the market.
Budd said it would take substantial rate increases to upgrade and retain servers for this service offering.
The CBPU will help current subscribers transition to other services.
The resolution passed by the CBPU board is scheduled to come before the Coldwter City Council at their meeting October 28, 2019.
