DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Jordy Mercer hit a two-run homer in the first inning and the Detroit Tigers went on to beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-2 Monday.
Victor Reyes added a two-run double in the fifth for a 4-0 Detroit lead. Tyler Alexander got his first career win with six innings of four-hit, one-run ball. Joe Jimenez notched his seventh save since taking over for traded closer Shane Greene.
Trey Mancini connected for his 33rd homer of the season for Baltimore, but also struck out with the bases loaded in the ninth. John Means took the loss to fall to 10-and-11.
The teams split the four-game set.
The Tigers open a three-game set against the Indians in Cleveland tonight before returning home for a weekend series against the Chicago White Sox.
