CLEVELAND, OH (WTVB) – Mike Clevinger and three Indians’ relievers combined on a nine-hit 7-0 shutout of the Detroit Tigers Thursday in Cleveland.
Franmil Reyes belted a two-run homer, his 35th, while Roberto Perez contributed a two-run single. Cleveland won its fourth straight and is tied with Tampa Bay for the AL second wild-card slot with a 90-and-63 record.
Detroit starter Daniel Norris allowed one run over three innings and was charged with the loss. Most of the damage was done off Drew VerHagen, who retired only four of the 11 batters he faced and six scored.
The Tigers fell to 45-to-107 as they suffered their 17th straight loss to Cleveland. Miguel Cabrera and Victor Reyes both had two hits for Detroit.
The Tigers host the Chicago White Sox tonight in the opener of a three-game series.
The New York Yankees are champions of the AL East for the first time since 2012. They beat the Angels 9-1 in the Bronx to clinch the division.
DJ LeMahieu , Brett Gardner, Cameron Maybin and Clint Frazier all homered for New York, which won its 100th game of the season. Masahiro Tanaka allowed just four hits and one run over seven innings for his 11th win.
