COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An Athens woman is scheduled to be sentenced Monday afternoon in Branch County Circuit Court after she entered guilty pleas July 29 to two of the three charges that were filed against her and three co-defendants by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office in an alleged plot to kidnap, rape and kill a randomly selected child.
20-year-old Jayme Lynn LaPoint admitted her guilt to conspiracy to commit the crimes of kidnapping and first-degree criminal sexual conduct. A count of conspiracy to commit murder was dismissed in exchange for the pleas.
LaPoint was given a prison sentence of between 25 and 50 years on Monday morning after entering a guilty plea to a charge of First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct in a case filed by the Branch County Prosecutors office involving a two-year-old girl she was babysitting.
