COLDWATER, MI. – (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council established rules for remote attendance by council members and others during electronic meetings on Tuesday evening.
The special meeting was held electronically due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an Executive Order on March 18th which temporarily changes the Open Meetings Act. It allows public bodies to conduct their meetings electronically, while also facilitating public participation until April 15th.
City Attorney Megan Angell said this allows government to continue doing business while observing the Stay at Home order.
Mayor Tom Kramer said the action had to be taken on Tuesday since the City Planning Commission is scheduled to meet on Thursday.
The action was the only item on Tuesday’s agenda.
The Branch County Board of Commissioners, the Quincy Village Council, the Branch Intermediate School District Board of Education and the Community Health Agency Board of Health have all held electronic meetings over the last week.
The next regular meeting for the City Council is scheduled for April 13th.
