COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One additional Branch County COVID-19 case was reported on Friday by the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency which brings the total number of cases in the county outside of the Lakeland Correctional Facility up to 25.
No additional local deaths were reported by the C.H.A. on Friday.
They say there were 71 cases in Hillsdale County and 20 cases in St. Joseph County.
The Calhoun County Public Health Department reported 65 cases on Friday while the Michigan Department of Corrections says the Lakeland Correctional Facility had 53 prisoners and 15 staff members who had tested positive.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in their Friday report said there was a total of 22,783 confirmed cases while 1,281 Michigan residents have been killed by the virus. The department said there were 1,279 new cases on Friday with 205 deaths reported.
WDIV-TV in Detroit reports that despite the spike in deaths from the Thursday total of 117, hospitals in southeastern Michigan are optimistic about their caseloads.
The station also reported that according to Henry Ford Health System, the number of coronavirus patients dropped to 696 from 752 earlier in the week while Michigan Medicine at the University of Michigan did not open a temporary hospital on Friday as planned.
