LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Six candidates filed with the Michigan Secretary of State’s office before Tuesday’s deadline in the race for the 58th District State House seat that has to be given up by current Representative Eric Leutheuser at the end of the year because of term limits.
There will be four Republicans and two Democrats who will be on the August primary ballot.
All of the Republicans are from Hillsdale County. They are Andrew Fink, Adam Stockford, Andy Welden and Daren Wiseley.
The two Democrats are Tamara Barnes of Coldwater and Steven Sowards. But Sowards announced last week he was dropping out of the race due to health concerns.
Meanwhile, the Seventh District Congressional race will have a familair look to it. Democrat Gretchen Driskell is running against Republican incumbent Tim Walberg for a third time.
Walberg will be seeking a seventh term in Congress. He won in 2016 with 55 percent of the vote when there was also a Liberterian Party candidate on the ballot.
Driskell lost to Walberg by a margin of 54-46 when they faced each other in a head-to-head matchup in 2018.
Meanwhile, Branch County Circuit Court Judge Bill O’Grady and District Court Judge Brent Weigle are running unopposed.
