COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Even though many spring and early summer events across Michigan are being postponed or cancelled, preparations are still underway for the annual Branch County Fair, August 9-15 in Coldwater.
Despite Michigan State University Extension cancelling all face-to-face activites for 4-H club members through September 1, 2020, Branch County Fair Manager Jan Murphy says individual members can still be show their projects at this year’s fair.
While the 4-H won’t be holding it’s organized activities, individual participants will still be receiving trophies and other awards from the fair for animals and craft projects. The large and small animal auctions will also still be held.
Murphy says beef entries were weighed before the COVID-19 shutdown, but starter calves, sheep, goats, and pigs will not have a weigh-in prior to the fair.
Michigan’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order has caused a few cancellations for events at the Dearth Center at the fairgrounds, and Murphy says one large camper rally scheduled for May has been moved to July.
The annual Coldwater Swap Meet and Car Show at the fairgrounds Mother’s Day weekend has been cancelled for 2020.
The 2020 Kalamazoo County Youth Fair scheduled for August 11-15 is canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
