SHERMAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) — A Bronson man has died from injuries he suffered Saturday morning when he was thrown from a tractor in a St. Joseph County crash.
It happened around 11:30 a.m. on North Centreville Road near Featherstone Road.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department has not updated information contained in a Monday morning news release about the crash but the victim has been identified in numerous social media posts by friends and family as 55-year-old Thomas Kissel.
Deputies say Kissel was driving a 1947 Ford 9N tractor when a 2005 GMC Canyon, driven by a 53-year-old Sturgis man, rear ended the tractor.
Kissel was thrown off and was unresponsive when first responders arrived.
He was transported to the Kirsch Municipal Airport and then airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, where he died Monday morning.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. His name has not been released by the Sheriff’s Department.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Authorities do not believe speed or alcohol were factors at the time.
