CALIFORNIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 62-year-old Coldwater man was booked into the Branch County Jail on a charge of driving while intoxicated causing a personal injury accident on Sunday night following a two vehicle crash at Fremont and Copeland Roads.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says deputies responded to the crash involving a car and a pickup truck which took place at about 4:30 p.m. in California Township.
When they arrived at the scene, they found a passenger car had been side swiped and in a nearby ditch.
A preliminary investigation by deputies showed that the vehicle driven by 20-year-old Kera Reichart of Montgomery, Michigan was heading south on Fremont Road when a red pickup truck that was north bound on Fremont Road was trying to turn left onto Copeland Road.
The pickup truck turned into the side of Reichart’s vehicle and left the scene heading west on Copeland Road.
Reichart was treated at the scene by Life Care Ambulance and Fremont Fire Rescue.
A witness knew who the pickup driver was and told deputies about the area where the man lives.
Deputies responded to that area, found the red Ford pickup and eventually arrested the suspect.
The accident remains under investigation. Branch County Sheriff Deputies were assisted by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, the Fremont Fire Department, Life Care Ambulance and an off duty Registered Nurse.
