COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – For over 20 years, WTVB morning host Ken Delaney made the 17 mile trek from Bronson to Quincy, raising thousands of dollars for emergency heating assistance through the Community Action Agency.
While last year was Delaney’s final Walk Across Branch County, Community Action is carrying on with their newly renamed Ken Delaney Community Walk for Warmth. The indoor walk featuring individuals and teams from across the county will be held on the track at the Dr. Robert W. Browne Recreation Center from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2020. The goal is to have entire teams of walking every hour throughout the five hour period.
The new community event will continue to raise funds to help low-income, elderly and disabled residents keep their utilities on when they fall on hard times. In 2019, Community Action’s Walk for Warmth Campaign helped 18 Branch County households that faced heat related emergencies.
On February 26, 2020, the Walk aims to raise $10,000 in the Branch County area.
Last year, 18 households in Branch County, totaling 41 family members, received assistance with their utility bills through Walk for Warmth donations. Community Action paid an average household bill of $388.09.
Of the families Community Action assisted in the Branch County area, 27% of households had children, 50% of households had seniors, and the average annual household income was $3,500.66.
