ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School Gymnastics team closed out their regular season schedule with a loss on the road to a very tough Angola Hornets team on Monday night.
The home team picked up the win in the Battle of the Border, scoring 106.325 points to Coldwater’s 99.125 points. In the Junior Varsity action, Coldwater bested Angola by less than one point. The Cardinals tallied 87.925 points over Angola’s 87.25.
Only the top three scores are taken in Indiana’s gymnastics meets. The Cardinals’ unoffical total according to Michigan scoring would have been 130.125 points. This is the first team in Coldwater history to score 130 points or higher at every meet during the regular season.
Abby Travelbee led Coldwater on the uneven bars as she finished fifth with a score of 8.15. She also finished third on the balance beam with a score of 8.2. Travelbee was fifth in the all around with 32.8 points. Coldwater’s Leah Goodwin was fifth on the vault and second in floor exercise scoring 9.0 in both events.
In the Junior Varsity results, Coldwater picked up two of the top three spots in the all around. Kelani Philipp took the top honors (30.675) followed by Shelby Taber in third (27.575).
Coldwater will now prepare for their postseason competition. The MHSAA Regional meet will take place next Saturday, March 7 at Kenowa Hills High School in Grand Rapids.
