COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School girls gymnastics team is heading to the Regionals. They secured their spot in the postseason by collecting their fourth straight team Regional qualifying score as they defeated Saline 134.8 to 130.2 Wednesday night.
In addition to the team, six individual gymnasts earned their way into the MHSAA Regional meet by picking up their fourth score.
Leah Goodwin, Layla Schoch, and Abby Travelbee have qualified into the Regional meet in all four events.
It was parent’s night for the gymnasts, as well as the annual Jillian Crist Memorial meet in which the team collects donations to the food pantry in honor of their former teammate.
Kelani Philipp and Karlie Knisely were recognized by the Crist family with the “Miss ConJilliality” Awards for their upbeat personalities and good sportsmanship.
As for the competition, Goodwin was first on the vault and in floor exercise, Travelbee won the uneven bars while Travelbee and Schoch tied for third on balance beam, Travelbee claimed top honors in the all around with her season best tally of 34.55 points.
Coldwater will travel to Jackson on Thursday for their next conference meet against the defending conference champions. In the meantime, the gymnasts are busy canvassing the community for donations to our local oncology center for their 10th Annual Stick It For a Cure fundraiser.
