COLDWATER, MI – (WTVB) – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Thursday at the site of a new modular home at 74 Thompson Boulevard which was constructed through a new Michigan State Housing Development Authority pilot program.
MSHDA officials say the program is designed to create affordable new construction housing that existing, expanding and new employers can use as an incentive for recruiting Michigan talent.MSHDA plans to award up to 10 local units of government and nonprofit corporations a five-year repayable grant of up to $196,000 to build a spec model.
The first grant agreement was executed nearly a year ago with the City of Coldwater.
City Manager Keith Baker says the intent of the home is to be affordable for working families. It is available for sale and Baker said they look to use the home as a model for other homes that could be built in the neighborhood. MSHDA Ann Grambau said they were pleased with how the house turned out.
