COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Five project reviews were approved by the Coldwater Downtown Historic District Commission on Wednesday night as they met for the first time since last October.
They approved a request from Bill and Cheryl Flickinger to replace rear windows with historic reproductions at 22 West Chicago. The two story commercial building was contructed in 1894. The intended use will be a restaurant on the first story and basement with office space on the second story.
The H.D.C. also approved a request from Coldwater Leisure for the 2,300 square foot expansion of JT’s Billiard Bar and Grill at 50 East Chicago. The building was constructed in 1959. City Planner Dean Walrack said the staff believed that the proposed work will satisfy all of the local design review standards and guidelines identified in the City of Coldwater Historic District Code.
An outdoor seating area and a second story deck for the future “Purple Orchid” at 41 and 47 West Chicago Street was approved. Plans by DMV Properties call for the buildings that were constructed in 1869 to become a new wine and retail business.
Also approved on Wednesday was a request from the Corona Smoke Shop at 27 West Chicago and Four South Monroe to install signage and an overhead door as well as a request from the Coldwater Executive Suites at 28 West Chicago to repair or remove planters from the building as part of an attempt by the building owners to repair a leak in the basement.
