COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- In light of the reported nationwide coins shortage right now, a local bank is making a special offer to encourage you to turn in your extra coins.
Southern Michigan Bank and Trust has announced what it’s calling an “in-CENT-ive” to exchange your change for cash. SMB andT says they’re hoping people will exchange their coins for cash to help circulate extra coins back in the community for business locations like gas stations, grocery stores, and convenience stores..
Anyone that exchanges coins at Southern Michigan Bank and Trust’s Coldwater Main, Hillsdale, Portage, or Three Rivers branches from now until July 31 will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a $50 gift card.
Customers and noncustomers are welcome and the fee will be waived for noncustomers.
The bank says the coin shortage, a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, can be mitigated by exchanging coin for cash, and using electronic payment methods such as debit cards, gift cards, and mobile wallet (iPay, Google Pay, etc.) whenever possible.
