QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – A proposed ordinance that would have regulated the keeping of animals in the Village of Quincy will need some more work after a vote by the Quincy Village Council ended in a 3-3 tie on Tuesday night.
The action was taken after a public hearing was held on the ordinance which was recommended for approval by the Quincy Joint Planning Commission.
It allowed up to four pets to be kept in any dwelling unit. Domesticated animals under the ordinance would have included dogs, cats, birds, aquatic animals, rabbits, small rodents, and similar animals which do not present an unusual risk to persons or property.
Scratched from the ordinance would have been animals considered livestock such as cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, and chickens. Exotic or Wild Animals especially those that pose a clear and present danger to humans would also not be allowed.
The proposed ordinance goes back to the Joint Planning Commission with comments from the Village Council as to why it failed to pass.
The Village Council met in person for the first time since February on Tuesday night. To make room for the social distancing guidelines which included chairs six feet apart, the meeting was held in the garage behind the Village Hall.
