COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Planning Commission will hold a public hearing Monday evening on proposed Recreational Marijuana Establishment Ordinances.
City Planner Dean Walrack says in his report for Monday’s meeting a framework would be created for marijuana establishments licensed under the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act to operate in Coldwater.
The D-2 Heavy Industrial District would allow growers, excess growers, secure transporters, safety compliance and processors.
The C-4 General Business District would allow retail operations.
Microbusiness, consumption and medical marihuana establishments would not be permitted in any zoning district.
The Downtown Development Authority voted last Wednesday to support the allowance of Marijuana Retail establishments in the C-2 Central Business District. They also supported the reduction of the buffers from schools to 500 feet.
The Planning Commission is scheduled to make a recommendation to the City Council after the public hearing.
If that happens, the City Council is expected to introduce the draft ordinances at their meeting next Monday with a vote taking place June 22.
If approved, the ordinances will go into effect 21 days after passage.
