COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater B.P.U. Board of Directors approved a request on Wednesday night to reinstate disconnects and late fees starting on June 15.
The action was taken as businesses and residents begin to return to their new normal and the B.P.U. return to normal operations following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The C.B.P.U. is encouraging all customers who are delinquent on their utility bills to contact customer service prior to June 15 to make payment arrangements.
They are also encouraging customers to reach out to the various health agencies that will provide federal assistance toward paying their utility bills.
B.P.U. Director Jeff Budd says there is significant funding available and they encourage customers to take advantage of these programs.
The utility said in a press release that low-income households or households who have recently lost income can call 2-1-1 or visit mi211.org for critical needs such as food, child care and more. Trained operators will connect you to assistance for a range of needs.
Businesses are strongly encouraged to see if they qualify for the Michigan Small Business Relief Program or federal loan programs, including the Paycheck Protection Program. Some of these programs allow you to use the funds towards your energy expenses.
