QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – An expansion at a major industry in Quincy will be assisted by a Michigan Department of Transportation grant.
MDOT has announced they have awarded a state transportation economic development fund grant of over $325,000 that will be used to reconstruct Church Street. According to a news release from MDOT, The Transportation Economic Development Fund Category A grant will help leverage $14 million in private investment, at a private/public investment ratio of nearly 43-to-1.
Due to increased demand, Speedrack Products Group requires additional manufacturing capacity. Unable to expand at their Litchfield facility, the company considered sites in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada, and Quincy for the expansion.
To accommodate an expansion in Quincy, changes to their commercial vehicle access are required.
Additional loading dock locations are proposed as part of the expansion. But Church Street is not designed to all-season standards and does not have the ability to accommodate commercial vehicles.
Officials say the grant will help fund the reconstruction of Church between Cole and Broughton streets to all-season standards. There would also be drainage improvements as well as the installation of curbs and gutters. The improvements provided by this grant funding will ensure year-round access for the facility.
The overall cost of this project is over $434,000. The local match from the Village of Quincy will be over $108,000.
Speedrack Products Group is headquartered in Sparta with manufacturing facilities in Quincy and Litchfield. The company fabricates tubular warehouse racks and rack systems for sale primarily throughout the United States and Canada. The Quincy plant takes rolled steel forms and then welds and paints those forms into shelving components.
