COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Corrections says the coronavirus has claimed the life of another prisoner who was originally housed at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater.
It’s the third straight day the M.D.O.C. has reported a Lakeland prisoner has died after testing positive for COVID-19 and brings the total number of deaths from the virus at the prison to 17.
Lakeland has had the most COVID-19 deaths of any Michigan prison facility. The Parnall Correctional Facility near Jackson has had 10 prisoner deaths.
The M.D.O.C. reports there have been a total of 48 deaths of prisoners in Michigan who had tested positive for COVID-19.
Of the 1,438 tests that were conducted of prisoners at Lakeland, 791 were positive while there were 634 negative tests.
