COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A man who was charged in connection with a Christmas Eve confrontation with a man and a woman at their home on Dove’s Landing in Girard Township was sentenced on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
60-year-old Archie Wilson was ordered to serve between 23 months to five years in the Michigan Department of Corrections after he entered no contest pleas to charges of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon and third degree home invasion.
Charges of first degree home invasion and assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer were dropped by prosecutors.
Wilson was given credit for 146 days already served in jail.
According to court documents, Wilson had been staying at the residence but was told he needed to leave. He returned and demanded entry in order to retrieve his belongings.
Wilson was accused of trying get into the home by using a hammer which broke some glass.
The broken glass struck a woman living at the residence in the face. Wilson was also accused of swinging a hatchet at a man living in the home.
He later tried to escape on his bicycle but was later apprehended by the Michigan State Police.
