COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As schools in Branch County are set to resume classes next week, they are doing so under the cloud of financial uncertainties after state lawmakers this summer failed to pass a new budget before the July 1st deadline.
State Representative Jennifer Wortz says she’s hopeful that will be resolved as lawmakers return to Lansing next week.
Wortz says the fiscal year differences between the schools and the state makes things more complicated, but says there is still funding available for this school year.
She says reduced and free lunches aren’t effected by the lack of a new budget since that is funded federally by the USDA.
