COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal baseball team fell to 4-9 on the season as they dropped a pair to Charlotte Thursday at Lowe Field, 5-3 and 7-4.
In the first game, the Orioles scored four runs in their half of the seventh to propel them to victory despite being outhit 11-8. Dayton Ennis was 3-for-3 with a double, Royale Fleming went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Luke Stout drove in a pair of runs.
The second game saw Charlotte take the lead with four runs in the fifth. Will Knowlan hit a 2-run double, Finn Hanson had an RBI double, and Owen Tappenden went 3-for-3 with a double.
Coldwater travels to Jackson Northwest on Tuesday.
It was also announced that the Cardinals’ baseball and softball games at Pennfield that were postponed Tuesday due to field conditions have been rescheduled for Thursday, May 14th.
HOMER, MI – Quincy improved to 7-5-1 with a doubleheader sweep at former (and future) Big 8 rival Homer, 13-0 and 10-0 in six innings.
Starting pitcher Joe Gray allowed just one Trojan hit in six innings of work to pick up the victory in the opener, with Caleb Wendorf throwing no-hit ball in the seventh. The Orioles blew the game wide open with a 10-run outburst in the seventh. Kale Dirschell doubled twice and drove in four runs, while Seth VanStlle went 3-for-4 with a double as Quincy finished with 15 hits.
Matthew Taylor and Kale Dirschell combined on a four-hit shutout in the nightcap as the Orioles pounded out 13 hits. Van Stelle went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs, while Dirschell drove in a pair of runs while going 2-for-4 at the plate. Bryson Estlow also notched two RBIs.
Quincy will host cross-county rival Union City on Tuesday.
BATTLE CREEK, MI – Union City fell to 6-6 after dropping a pair of five-inning games at Pennfield, 11-1 and 10-0.
The Panthers set the tone in the first game with an 8-run outburst in the third inning. Nolan Chard drove in the Chargers’ only run in the fourth, while Carson Liles, Simon Swartzle, and Jaxson Dadow had the only hits.
Union City was held to just two hits, one each from Dadow and Dalton Hawk, in the nightcap.
