KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity and junior varsity soccer teams both played in the David Ni Memorial Westside Shootout Saturday and didn’t give up a goal all day.
The varsity opened by beating Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 1-0 in dramatic fashion, as Muthana Hajaji scored with 2:30 left in the game, assisted by Ahmed Norman.
Goalkeeper Jensley Norvilus then blocked a Loy Norrix penalty kick as time expired to preserve the win. He had a total of nine saves for the game, as Coldwater outshot the Knights 10-9.
The Cardinals then beat Niles 3-0 in their second game, with goals from Johan Aburto, Azzam Ahmed, and Abdulhamid Munassar, and assists from Ahmed Norman and Leondro Sanchez.
Freshman Mackenson Berry had five saves in goal for the shutout.
Coldwater is now 4-1 and will travel to Plainwell Tuesday.
The Cardinal JV team tied Gull Lake 0-0 in their opener, then beat Kalamazoo Christian 5-0 in their second game.
Sadeq Almatar had two goals, with one each from Mogib Ahmed, Mohamed Ahmed, and Wesam Almatter.
Riyadh Sharif had both shutouts in goal, as the JV team stayed undefeated on the season. They will also travel to Plainwell Tuesday.
