BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – In weekend girls volleyball action, Coldwater made it to the Gold Bracket Semifinals of Saturday’s Cereal City Invitational at Pennfield, finishing with a 3-1-1 record on the day.
In pool play, the Cardinals tied Sturgis 26-24, 20-25; defeated St. Philip 25-23, 25-20; and beat Hopkins 25-20, 25-15 to finish first in their pool. In the Gold Bracket Quarterfinals, Coldwater was victorious over Homer 25-19, 25-15. Their day ended with a loss to Marshall in the Semifinals, 25-12, 25-21.
For the day, Adyson Qualls led her team with 31 kills, 32 digs, and 10 service aces, while Aubrey Gebbink added 27 kills, 27 aces, and 27 digs. Marie Powers had a team-high 12 blocks to go with 14 kills and 4 aces, and Brooklyn Closson dished out 80 assists and also had 8 kills, 9 aces, and 20 digs.
Coldwater is now 5-6-1 on the season and will host a triangular match against Hudson and Concord Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. It will be both Youth Night and Staff Appreciation Night. Members of the Cardinal varsity team will sign posters and pose for pictures with fans after their match against Hudson. Before their contest against Hudson, each varsity player will be introduced alongside a Coldwater Schools staff member who has had an impact on their life.

BRONSON, MI – Bronson went 2-1 at a quad match they hosted on Saturday, beating Hastings 25-17, 25-16, 25-15; defeating Jonesville 28-26, 25-15, 25-20; and losing to Vicksburg 25-15, 14-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-11.
The Vikings will take a 2-5 overall record to Friday’s Mt. Morris Invitational.
