UNION CITY (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, there was limited action last night to tip off the 2015 schedule for county teams with the first games happening in Union City where the Chargers split their boys and girls non-conference basketball contests against Battle Creek St. Philip. The boys stayed perfect on the season improving to 5-0 by beating the Tigers 58-35. Colin Kreger had a game-high 15 points for Union City. Jalen Boes added 12 points while Darren Austin had 9 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists.
In the Girls game, St. Philip downed Union City 34-21 with the loss dropping their record to 2-4. The Chargers are back at it Tuesday night at home for Big Eight Conference play with the boys and girls teams taking on the Reading Rangers.
It’s a busy wrestling schedule for today. Coldwater competes at the Parma Western Invitational, Bronson is at the Hastings Invitational and Union City is hosting its annual Paul Smeltzer tournament. And today in gymnastics, Coldwater is at the Rockford Invitational.
