Notre Dame has essentially punched its ticket to Miami and the national championship game with Sunday’s release of the second to last BCS standings. The opponent for the Fighting Irish will likely be the winner of the SEC Championship contest coming up Saturday between number-2Alabamaand number-3Georgia. While the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs still have work to do, Notre Dame finished off their 12-and-0 regular season with a victory at Southern Californiaon Saturday night to stay atop the BCS poll.
Michigan remains in 19th place after its 26-to-21 loss at Ohio State. The 8-and-4 Wolverines are probably headed to a New Year’s Day Bowl game against an S-E-C team.
Ohio State capped an undefeated 12-and-0 season against Michigan with its final game due to NCAA sanctions making them ineligible for post season play.
