COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports last night, in the MHSAA wrestling team districts, Coldwater and Union City were eliminated but Bronson was able to advance to next week’s Regionals. At the Three Rivers Division Two District, Coldwater defeated Three Rivers 39-27 in the semi-finals before losing in the finals to Sturgis 40-27. And at the Bronson Division 4 District, the host Vikings beat Colon 81-0 in the semi-finals and then captured the District title with a 62-13 victory over Union City, which drew a semi-final bye.
Bronson will host its own Regional next Wednesday and in the semi-finals, the unranked Vikings will face number-two Hudson. The State Tournament opened this week on Wednesday when Quincy was eliminated in the semifinals of the Springport Division 4 District. Coming up tomorrow, it’s the State individual districts.
Last night in high school basketball, in girls varsity action, Quincy fell at home to Athens 57-27. Cailyn Hines had 15 points in the loss while Katie Spalding had 14 rebounds. Quincy’s record slips to 1-16 and 1-10 in conference play. Also in the Big Eight, Union City lost at home to Concord 75-29 with their record dropping to 3-14 and 1-10 in the conference.
Last night in reserve boys and girls basketball, Coldwater lost all 4 of their games against Jackson Northwest. In the boys contests in Coldwater, the junior varsity Cardinals fell to the Mounties 39-33 with 8 points for Jake Beckhusen. The freshman dropped their game to Northwest 44-37 with 8 points for Joe Severn and 13 rebounds for Logan Fee.
In the girls games at Northwest, the Mounties took the JV contest 63-49. Isabella Foley and Jamie Wellet had 14 points apiece for Coldwater while Madison Marsh added 12 points. The Lady Cardinals lost the freshman game 36-13.

Also tonight, in boys only play, Quincy will try to improve to 14-0 with the Orioles at home against Athens while Union City hosts Concord and Tekonsha plays visiting Litchfield. And in a girls only game, Bronson hosts Olivet.
In bowling yesterday afternoon, it was a sweep for Coldwater over Marshall with the boys and girls Varsity and JV squads winning their Interstate 8 home matches at Midway Lanes. In the boys varsity victory, Collin Outwater led the way with a 279 while for the girls, Sadie Youse had a 204. Both varsity teams have 7-2 records.
In the JV action, for the girls, Samantha Youse and Sabrina VanAuker each rolled their first career 200 games with an even 200 for Sabrina and Samantha with a 202. Caleb Champion had the high game for the JV boys, rolling a 186. This afternoon in bowling, Coldwater travels to Jackson Airport Lanes for a match against Jackson Northwest.
In middle school sports, last night in Girls basketball, Bronson swept two games at home over Centreville. The 8th grade team beat the Bulldogs 32-12 with 12 points for Kiera Lasky. And Bronson won the 7th grade game 21-16 with 8 points apiece for Alanna Mayer and Keona Salesman.
