COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two inmates at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater had to be treated for suspected drug overdoses over the weekend and a third has died.
The “Detroit Free Press” reports the cause of the Sunday death of 21-year-old Seth Zakora has not yet been determined.
A spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections would not confirm if Zakora also overdosed. Chris Gautz told the Free Press that the cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner. He added the Michigan State Police have been to the facility and are working with their staff in the investigation.
He went on to say one of the prisoners who overdosed has returned to the facility, the other remains hospitalized. Authorities found a suboxone strip in the cell of one of the three prisoners.
The Free Press reports Zakora was serving time for sexual assault out of Eaton County.
