PITTSFORD, MI (WTVB) – The driver of a passenger car and her five year old child suffered minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle struck the back of a Pittsford school bus.
Michigan State Police say the crash occurred at 3:10 p.m. on Gardner Road in Hillsdale County’s Wheatland Township.
Troopers say the bus had 21 students on board. It had come to a complete stop with all of the appropriate flashing lights and equipment activated. They report the woman failed to recognize the bus was stopped and struck it in the back. Heavy damage was reported.
A 10 month old in the woman’s car was in a child restraint seat and escaped injury but the five-year-old was not properly restrained.
The occupants of the vehicle, as well as the students from the bus, were checked at the scene by EMS personnel. Neither the students from the bus nor the bus driver were injured in the crash. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
The 24 year old driver of the passenger car was cited for reckless driving.
