COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – School parking lots can be danger zones for kids and the principal at Max Larsen Elementary in Coldwater has spoken out about the situation that they’re dealing with at his building. Dr. Shawn Bishop recently told the Coldwater Board of Education that at Max Larsen, someday, someone is going to get hurt.
Bishop said he can only improve and tighten up the situation so much, adding he’s not trying to be alarmist, rather he’s being truthful. According to Bishop, when you have easily over 100 parent pickups in a day with 500 people that are younger than seven years old attempting to get to cars in about a five minute period, and not even half of the necessary parking spaces, something new must be tried out. He said he’s very worried what could happen someday and cautions you just can’t physically take care of everybody as safely as they deserve. Bishop told the scho
ol board that his own daughter will be going to Max Larsen next year so it bothers him, and in his words, that’s the filter, because if he wouldn’t allow it for his children , he shouldn’t allow it for somebody else’s kids. He believes it’s getting much better and the complaints are way down because people realize there’s only so much you can do and parents also understand that school officials are trying hard to do their best so they are giving them some space to figure it out.
