COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With the help from the Community Health Center Foundation, the Community Health Center of Branch County has taken another step forward in decreasing clinical wait time and increasing patient safety. With help from a $5,000 CHC Foundation grant, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department has recently acquired a Tip Confirmation System (TCS), used for PICC tip placement.
A peripherally inserted central catheter, better known as a PICC line, allows patients to have safe, long term venous access for IV therapy. Previously, CHC used chest x-ray to verify placement. This method confirmation increases clinical care time, exposes patients to unnecessary radiation, and delays medical therapy. By using TCS, the final placement can be verified by a nurse at bedside allowing for infusion therapy to be started immediately without the need of confirmation via chest x-ray.
