COLDWATER (WTVB) – Some meteorologists are calling it a third wave of cold air, others are calling it the Polar Vortex revisited as the Jet stream has set up south of the Great Lakes Region Coldwater could be back down to 14-below or worse early Friday morning. A wind chill advisory is in effect for Branch County from 4 pm today to Noon Thursday with wind chill values between 10 below zero and 25 below zero through the period. National Weather Service Meteorologist Janis Laurens says it’s been amazing with the arctic air being so persistent and as the cold air builds it becomes self-perpetuating with the snow cover it sort of perpetuates on itself.
He says all of their long range forecasts show that this persistently colder than normal weather will stick around through the end of this month. But there could be a one-day mini-thaw on the way for Saturday with the forecast high of 33.
